Mbasa Sea Farms (Pty) Ltd was established in 2004 and cultivates oysters in the Keiskamma estuary at Hamburg in the Eastern Cape. Mbasa currently has a staff complement of 9 but this will increase to approximately 15 once the farm is fully developed.

Quality management is conducted on an on-going basis by the farm manager. Water quality is monitored on regular basis by an accredited lab and all oysters are purified by purging them in sterilised water as a precautionary measure before their leaving the farm. Mbasa Sea Farm's primary objective is to produce the best quality oysters in South Africa.

The company currently has 20% of the shareholding belonging to previously disadvantaged with a further 6% reserved for a suitable candidate from this group. Mbasa provides employment opportunites to the local population and is engaged in the transferring of skills in the field of oyster cutivation.
